A 23-year-old Ka‘u man will stand trial on charges of robbery, theft and terroristic threatening in connection with two alleged Jan. 26 robberies on South Point Road.
A 23-year-old Ka‘u man will stand trial on charges of robbery, theft and terroristic threatening in connection with two alleged Jan. 26 robberies on South Point Road.
Kainoa Kahele-Bishop, of Ocean View, will enter his pleas to first-degree robbery involving a dangerous instrument and force, first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, second-degree theft, second-degree robbery involving threatened force, second-degree terroristic threatening, and third-degree theft at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 19 before 3rd Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth Strance, according to court records.
Third Circuit Ka‘u District Court Judge Andrew Wilson on Wednesday found probable cause to transfer the charges to 3rd Circuit Court for trial. He also maintained bail for Kahele-Bishop at $98,000.
The charges stem from two Jan. 26 reported robberies on South Point Road, according to court records.
The first-degree robbery, first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and second-degree theft charges stem from a robbery that occurred about 9 a.m. on South Point Road.
According to police and court records, Kahele-Bishop accompanied 25-year-old Trinity Crapser, who, while wielding a hatchet, demanded a 47-year-old Discovery Harbor woman’s Corvette. After demanding the vehicle, Kahele-Bishop reportedly exited from a white car that had pulled up near the Corvette, reached into the vehicle and removed a bag containing a laptop, cellphone, wallet and jewelry-making tools and supplies. He then allegedly fled in the white car.
Crapser also fled the scene, but was arrested Jan. 27 and charged Jan. 28. She made her initial appearance in court on Friday with Wilson finding probable cause to transfer charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree attempted assault, third-degree assault, first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle to 3rd Circuit Court. She is slated to enter pleas to the charges Feb. 11 before Strance.
According to police affidavits, Crapser allegedly told officers Kahele-Bishop “made her do it.”
The charges of second-degree robbery, second-degree terroristic threatening, and third-degree theft against Kahele-Bishop stem from a robbery that occurred at South Point earlier Jan. 26, according to court records.
According to police, a 48-year-old Ocean View man, who recognized Kahele-Bishop’s picture in a press release, reported that he had been robbed by the same man while fishing at South Point. In that case, the 48-year-old reported that he was confronted, threatened with bodily harm and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. Court records said the amount was greater than $100.
Police charged him with the offenses Jan. 31.
